This isn't what you'd normally think of when you see the words "self portrait".
I created what and put together a group of images and ideas, and symbols and that resembles me. I'll start out with the top right hand corner and shift to the bottom left, I'll explain what they stand for as well as other inner meanings.
At the top-right we see this massive sky tower that's floats over the blue and pink colors of of the sky. I love technology and the idea of the future, I have always been fascinated and influenced by science fiction. The colors in the background I did myself, the colors of pink and blue remind me of sun sets and I wanted this whole piece to reflect a happy mood.
The planet Mars peers beneath the sky tower. Mars is the God of War, and is my favorite planet. I hope someday NASA will terraform Mars and colonize their one day. It is my dream that we continue to honor the space program and send more astronauts into space.
'42' Is the answer to life the universe and everything" anyone who read 'Hitch-hiker's guide to the Galaxy' would know that. It's also a title of a song, by Coldplay one of my favorite rock groups.
Now I'll explain the graphite eye. This is the only visual that I put into my self portrait that repentants the real 'me'. I drew my eye, I wanted to capture my eye because as the saying goes... "Your eyes see into your soul" or something like that. I'm also very timid about taking photos of me on the web because yo never know who will look at your photo, and I like to remand a mystery. *laughs*
I added the Da Vinci planets because I like the designs he created and as an artist I look up to his work for inspiration. It also reminds me of steampunk witch is another thing that I enjoy, as well as watching Miyazaki movies and old school Twilight Zone episodes.
The butterfly is a free spirit that flutters into the sky bringing joy to those who see it. Reminds me of friends, and family. FFAL means Friends for a lifetime and I find that the butterfly represents that feeling and emotion well.
The Japanese characters say "Ka-Ma-Ta", it's a nickname I gave myself for online purposes, it's also influenced from my love of anime and manga. I obtained that name from the back of a Ramune soda bottle.
The gold wave was just for effect. Not much to say here.
The outline of London lays at the bottom of my piece. I went to London once and it really captivate me. I love the rich culture, people, buildings and food. It has such a charming and rich history. I wan to go back again, I love it over there.
And last I have the Triforce symbol.
The Triforce is from the 'Legend of Zelda' video game series and is one of my favorite games. The Triforce stands for 'Wisdom', 'Power' and 'Courage' and I think the concept is wonderful.
